Faculty And Neighbors 'Clap Out' Most Holy Redeemer's 2020 Class

Most Holy Redeemer keeps tradition of "clapping out" eighth-graders pandemic style. Pictures and video.

EVERGREEN PARK, IL — Most Holy Redeemer School in Evergreen Park has a tradition of clapping out its eighth-grade graduating class. Students in lower grades line the halls to applaud the lofty eighth-graders as they leave the school they attended since kindergarten for the last time.

In this year of the pandemic, teachers and the principal had to think fast to maintain many of the traditions built up over the years while practicing social distancing. The parish parking lot was filled to capacity Friday morning as MHR’s 40 graduates prepared to circle the school in their family’s vehicles for their clap-out parade.

Although their parents and grandparents are disappointed not seeing their student stride across the stage to accept his or her diploma, there must be something secretly wonderful about standing up in your family vehicle’s skylight waving at your friends and strangers before heading off to high school.
