Fleeing Driver Charged After Gun Is Found in Car: Police

Evergreen Park police said 19-year-old man got out of the car and ran after he was stopped for hitting a parked car.

EVERGREEN PARK, IL — Police found a gun in a car after its driver fled on foot during a traffic stop, prosecutors said. David Moore, 19, appeared before Cook County Judge John Mahoney on a felony charge of aggravated unlawful use of a weapon and resisting arrest.

According to the charges, Evergreen Park police attempted pulled over a car after it hit an unoccupied vehicle just after midnight on March 4. Before Moore and his three juvenile passengers were asked to exit the car, the prosecutor said, Moore jumped out and started running. Officers eventually caught up with Moore at a 7-Eleven store at 10301 S. Sawyer Ave.

Prosecutors say officers searched the car and found a gun loaded with three rounds. Moore allegedly admitted to owning the gun.

The public defender told the judge that Moore is scheduled to attend college in a few weeks.

Bail was set at $10,000. Moore was ordered to remain on electronic home monitoring if he is released on bond. His next court date is April 1 in Bridgeview.
