Gary, Ind. Woman Accused of Using Fake License To Buy Merchandise

Prosecutor said woman presented fake driver's license and asked Menards cashier to look up account. Manager grew suspicious and called cops.

EVERGREEN PARK, IL -- A Gary, Ind. woman visited the Menards store in Evergreen Park where she tried to use another person’s driver’s license to look up an account, prosecutors said. Vicki Becker, 44, appeared before Cook County Judge Peter Felice on a charge of unlawful possession of a driver’s license. Becker was allegedly trying to purchase $549.25 worth of merchandise.

According to the charges, Becker went to Menard’s at 91st Street and Western Avenue on Jan. 2. After filling a cart with merchandise, Becker took it to a cashier. She allegedly presented a driver’s license bearing her picture and asked the cashier to look up the account. The store manager grew suspicious because the driver’s license did not appear authentic and called Evergreen Park police. Becker admitted to police that the driver’s license was fake, the prosecutor said.

Becker’s attorney told the judge that her client was on disability. She was released on a $30,000 I-bond and given a curfew for the duration of her case. Becker is due back in court Jan. 18 in Bridgeivew.
