Gun Found In Car Of Man Charged In Domestic Dispute: Police
Court records said the gun and ammunition were "immediately accessible" to man charged with domestic battery in Evergreen Park, cops said.
EVERGREEN PARK, IL -- A Chicago man involved in a domestic altercation after dropping his child off with the mother was arrested after police found an uncased and unloaded gun in his car, prosecutors said. Aundra Wright, 26, appeared before Cook County Judge John Mahoney on a felony charge of aggravated unlawful use of a weapon.
Around 9:50 a.m. April 18, Evergreen Park police responded to a domestic disturbance in the 8700 block of South Kedzie Avenue. Officers said Wright got into an altercation with the mom after he dropped the child off for visitation. According to court records, Wright slapped the woman and pushed her down. He also grabbed her phone and threw it to the ground, making it inoperable.
The prosecutor said Wright fled the scene and was stopped by police near Rockwell Avenue and 87th Street. Wright allegedly told officers that he had an unloaded gun in the car, for which he had a FOID card but no conceal-carry license. Officers found a Taurus 9mm pistol between the driver’s seat and driver side door, as well as a loaded magazine inside a gym sock in the cup holder, the prosecutor said. Police said both were immediately accessible to the driver.
