Prosecutors said that Urbaniak tried to evade police by stopping his vehicle and running away. Police caught up to him and took him into custody.

When Urbaniak was asked why his plates did not match the registration, he allegedly told the cops that he “found” both plates in an alley, so he put them on his car.

The assistant public defender told the judge that Urbaniak is employed as a dog groomer for his girlfriend’s pet grooming business.

Illinois Department of Corrections records indicate that Urbaniak has twelve residential burglary convictions, along with convictions for possession of a controlled substance, possession of a stolen vehicle and obstruction of justice.

Urbaniak was released on parole in November 2014, where he had been serving concurrent 20- and 14-year sentences for residential burglary.

The judge set bail at $50,000. Urbaniak’s next hearing at Bridgeview is November 10.
