Jilted Girlfriend Makes Fake 911 Call: Prosecutor

Woman claimed male acquaintance threatened her with a gun at Dunkin Donuts when she confronted him about an old boyfriend, prosecutor said.

OAK LAWN, IL -- A Hickory Hills woman was arrested for making a fake 911 call, stating that a man threatened her and her children with a pistol in the Dunkin’ Donuts parking lot, prosecutors said. Marwah Hanieh, 21, appeared before Cook County Judge Michael Kane on a felony disorderly conduct charge. Hanieh entered the courtroom giggling at friends in the gallery, until the judge told one of her friends to leave.

According to the charges, Hanieh went to Dunkin Donuts at 103rd Street and Central Avenue in Oak Lawn on Jan. 28 to confront a male acquaintance about an old boyfriend. Hanieh called 911 to report that the acquaintance had a black handgun. She allegedly told the 911 dispatcher that she was sitting across the street from the donut shop with her children in her car. Hanieh gave a description of the acquaintance and his vehicle, the prosecutor said.

When Oak Lawn police arrived, the acquaintance was still at the donut shop. Officers frisked the man and he did not have a gun. Police arrested Hanieh, who allegedly denied making the 911 call.

Hanieh’s private attorney told the judge that the acquaintance had made several threatening phone calls to Hanieh earlier in the day, who recorded the phone calls. She went to confront the man at the donut shop. Her attorney said Hanieh called 911 because she felt threatened.

“So she went to confront someone she knew to be carrying a gun with a conceal-carry permit,” the judge asked.

Hanieh is currently on probation for two felony drug offenses, the prosecutor said. She was also charged on New Year’s Eve for driving a minor past curfew, according to court records. She is being held without bail for the probation violations. Bail on the new charge was set at $10,000. Hanieh is due back in court Feb. 13 in Bridgeview.
