Man Tried Twice To Get 11-Year Old Into Truck At 108th/Washtenaw

A man offered money to an 11-year-old boy in an attempt to get the child to enter his car on Wednesday, police said.

CHICAGO, IL - A man driving what was described as a "beat up" green Ford pickup truck late Wednesday afternoon tried twice to get an 11-year-old boy to enter it, police in the 22nd District said in a community alert.

The man, who was described as white with black hair and a white beard and believed to be between 27 and 33 years old, approached the child around 4:35 p.m. in the 10800 block of South Washtenaw Ave., according to police. He offered the boy money in an attempt to get him inside the vehicle. When the victim did not respond, police say the man in the truck drove off but returned a few minutes later "and attempted to lure him again."

The truck he was driving has an extended cab. Police said the man fled the area southbound after the second luring attempt.

Chicago police alerted residents to the luring attempt on social media less than two hours after it happened, a sharp contrast from a similar incident last month at 101st and Artesian that was not sent out as a community alert until 11 days after the incident. The Chicago Police Department apologized for that delay, calling it an oversight.
