Coronavirus In South Suburbs: 383 Deaths, 8,242 Cases

SOUTH SUBURBAN COOK COUNTY, IL — Despite early signs of flattening the curve in Illinois, new coronavirus cases and fatalities continue to climb across the state. New COVID-19 infections stand at 70,873 as of May 7, with 3,111 deaths, a large number concentrated in Cook County.

The Cook County Medical Examiner counted 383 deaths in south suburban Cook County. Oak Lawn leads the south suburbs with 51 coronavirus deaths, followed by 26 in Chicago Ridge, and 23 in Bridgeview. Homewood had 21 deaths. Between the four communities, 68 deaths were attributed to nursing homes.

Of the state’s 70,000-plus conformed coronavirus cases, data from the Illinois Department of Public Health counted 8,242 cases in the south suburbs.
