Student Government at EPCHS Holds Drive-Thru Drop-Off Food Drive

Sponsor Brian English and his students knew this year would have to be different but felt the event had to be held.

Annually, Evergreen Park Community High School’s Student Government sponsors a food drive to benefit the Evergreen Park Village Food Pantry. Sponsor Brian English and his students knew this year would have to be different but felt the event had to be held because the need was exponentially greater, more so than any other year before. They decided to hold the event on Tuesday, April 28 with a drive-thru, drop-off model.

The food drive was advertised and the school’s Activity Director, Mrs. Amy Kazin, even discussed it on EP Podcast with Chris Lanuti. The community was asked to bring non-perishable items to the school's north parking lot between 1:00 and 3:00 p.m. and school staff, using all recommended precautions, would collect the items while donors remained in their cars.

On the day of the event staff members Brian English, Tammy Pietruszynski, Mark Smyth, Karen Hewitt, Kyle Nine, Amy Kazin, Ken Kazin, Katie Hyland and Bill Sanderson, wore their masks and gloves and collected the donations. The community lined their cars up and these staff members were able to fill three large vehicles with all the items for the food pantry.

"We are so grateful to everyone who donated to support those in need in our community,” said Mrs. Kazin. “Special thanks to Chris Lanuti for helping us to get the word out about the event. It is this type of generosity that reminds us what a special community Evergreen Park really is and how fortunate we are to be part of it."
