Evergreen Park Subway Employees Escape Through Back Door During Robbery

Police said robbers entered restaurant with towels covering their faces.

EVERGREEN PARK, IL -- Employees escaped through the back door of a fast food restaurant after two males burst into the store with towels over their faces, Evergreen Park police said.

Police responded to a call of a robbery around 7:35 p.m. Monday, at the Subway, 9838 S. Western Ave. Witnesses described the men as black, Hispanic or Middle Eastern with towels covering their faces.

Employees ran out through the back door without being confronted by the robbers. The men grabbed the register door and exited through the front door.

Capt. Peter Donovan, of the Evergreen Park Police Department, said the call originally went out as an armed robbery, but no weapon was displayed or implied.
