Summer Fitness, Volleyball, Creativity and More

Evergreen Park Youth Department offering summer camps; Youth Center/Game Room hours will expand this summer.

Like all of us in the early part of April, the Evergreen Park Youth Department has their eye on the summer. Having already planned the Annual Grand Opening of the Youth Garden (with a preparatory program on Wednesday, April 30), the final touches have already been put on several exciting summer camps.

The Youth Department is located in the Maher Community Center at 3450 W. 97th Street.

The Teen Co-ed Sand Volleyball League begins on Monday, June 9, with games every Monday evening at 5:30pm at Circle Park. (There will be no game on June 30). This league is open to teens age 13 to 17. The cost is $350 per team, or $60 per person for the whole season ($75 for non-residents). Registration for this exciting sand volleyball league can be done at the Youth Department on or before May 23.

July brings a Youth Fitness Camp, which is a four-week program, held on Wednesdays from 6pm-7pm. Sessions include fitness interactive video games and outdoor activities. The cost is $25 per person and is open to students age 10-17. Participants are asked to register in the Youth Department by June 18.

“We are excited to bring these programs to our students and to keep them active during the summer,” stated Ms. Pyeisha Allen, Youth Department Director. “But we also like to keep their hands and minds busy,” she added. “This is why we developed the Sewing Camp and Creative Camp.”

The week-long Sewing Camp For Beginners begins on Monday, June 9 and meets every afternoon that week from 3:30pm to 5:00pm. This camp helps beginners (age 10-18), to explore fashion and design, as well as learning the basics of using a sewing machine. The cost for the week is $62.
Monday, June 23 begins the week of Creative Camp, which is one hour per day from Noon-1pm. Students will create fun crafts and take part in experiments to make their creativity shine. The cost for this class, which includes all materials (plus a snack!) is $25.

“And always, during the summer, we open our Youth Center/Game Room for extended hours for our students age 10-18. Beginning June 9, we will be open Monday thru Friday from 1pm-6pm,” Ms. Pyeisha added. “We’ve got arcade games, board games, electronic games, air hockey, foosball…so much fun! Plus, we’ve always got concessions available for purchase.”

“I am so thankful that we can provide a fun and safe environment for our students.”

The Youth Department has a social media presence, with a Facebook page (Evergreen Park Youth Department) and an Instagram (epyouthdept). Their activities are always available on the village website. But if you want to hear a friendly voice, you can always call them at (708) 229-3377.
