Walmart Cashier Accused of Swiping $3,467 From Registers
Walmart employee was placed under video surveillance after shortages from several cash registers were traced back to her, prosecutor said.

EVERGREEN PARK, IL -- A Walmart cashier was arrested after a month-long investigation that showed her taking cash from the registers at the Evergreen Park location, prosecutors said. Dejah Austin, 19, of Chicago, appeared before Cook County Judge Michael Kane on a felony charge of theft.
According to the charges, store security placed Austin under video surveillance on June 8, after shortages in several registers began showing up that were traced back to her. The prosecutor said Austin was captured on security video alleged removing cash from the registers. She was arrested on July 10, where she allegedly admitted to taking what amounted to be $3,467. She also signed a written statement, the prosecutor said. Austin has no prior criminal background.
Austin was released on a $10,000 I-bond. She’s due back in court Aug. 31 in Bridgeview.

“You’re going to home with your mom, which is probably a good thing,” Kane said. “If you don’t do what I say, I’ll revoke the bond and you won’t be going home with your mom.”
