Special Meeting Called for Tuesday to Discuss Putting Video Gaming Issue Before Voters
Voters could have the chance to decide the issue of video gambling in Forest Park if the measure winds up on the ballot in April.

Forest Park could decide Tuesday whether to ask residents this April if video gaming should be allowed in town.
During a special meeting called for 10 a.m. Tuesday, commissioners will discuss, and possibly decide, if an advisory referendum on the controverial issue should be placed on the April 9 ballot.

Officials earlier this month had considered sending out a survey to get a pulse of the community.
The question of whether video gambling should be brought to Forest Park was a major lssue last year.

While the village has a ban on gambling, Illinois has passed a law allowing communities the option of putting gaming machines in liquor establishments.
To do that, the village would need to "opt-in" with the state, and toward that end, Mayor Anthony Calderone scheduled forums for Oct. 25 and Nov. 1. The latter forum was cancelled.
Since the state law on video gaming was changed, Berwyn and North Riverside are the only area communities that have opted in with the state. Maywood, River Forest and Oak Park have decided to continue the ban.
