Attached Homes Proposed for Old Hines Lumber Site in River Forest

River Forest officials on Monday will hear a proposal to build 10 attached homes at the former Hines Lumber site at Madison Street and Forest Avenue before developers begin the planned development application process.

Stephen Saunders and Robert Palley have purchased the former Hines Lumber site at 7820 W. Madison St. They have approached the village about redeveloping the site into attached homes similar to townhouses, which would require a planned development permit from the village, according to a village staff memo.

In a Sept. 5 letter to the village, Saunders outlined the proposed project and schedule. The developers are proposing to build a low density community of 10 attached homes on the 82,500-square-foot site at the northeast corner of Madison and Forest. Each unit would have individual entries, a two-car garage and private outdoor space, Saunders wrote. 

Saunders wrote he plans to start the entitlement process as soon as possible, and prepare construction documents and finalize costs by the end of 2013 to begin construction in the spring of 2014. 

"We are excited about the opportunity to revitalize an important site in the village and appreciate any help in expediting the required approvals," he wrote. 

The River Forest Village Board will hear preliminary details about the proposed project at their meeting at 7 p.m. Monday, Sept. 9, at Village Hall, 400 Park Ave., River Forest.
