Decorative Light Fixtures Could Be Sold to Help Food Pantry

Old Light Fixtures Could Turn into Donations for Food Pantry.

The village of Forest Park is considering whether 40 decorative light fixtures that once adorned Madison Street could be sold as surplus property with funds going to the Forest Park Food Pantry.

All of the old fixtures are being replaced around town with LED lights, Tim Gillian told commissioners as part of his village administrator's report. Gillian noted that the move has been popular.

But rather than just keep the old fixtures from Madison Street stored, Gillian suggested selling them to residentes.

Commissioner Tom Mannix took that once step further, suggesting that money from the sale ought to go to the Forest Park Food Pantry.

"It would be a win-win," Mannix said.

To make this work, commissioners would have to approve a resolution declaring the items as surplus. The cost—possibly the equivalent of feeding a family of four for a week—would have to be set. That cost could come in the form of food donations or cash. The exact amount is being researched now by food pantry staff.

A resolution will be prepared and brought before commissioners at a future meeting.
