Walmart Employee Arrested in Gift Card Scam: Police Blotter

Forest Park police reports, June 24-25, include thefts from cars, a Walmart employee's alleged gift card scam and more.

TUESDAY, JUNE 25

Bag and Camera Taken From Unlocked Car

Someone stole a woman's leather work bag and a Nikon camera from an unlocked car in the 500 block of Elgin Avenue between 10 p.m. June 24 and 7:50 a.m. June 25. The woman later found her bag, but not the camera, in a garbage can on Jackson Boulevard, police said.

iPod, GPS Unit and Change Nabbed

Someone stole a few dollars in change, an iPod and a GPS unit from a car in the 1000 block of Des Plaines Avenue between 11 p.m. June 24 and 10 a.m. June 25. 

Receipt for Car Repairs Stolen

Someone stole a receipt listing repairs needed for a 2006 Land Rover parked in the 1100 block of Beloit Avenue between midnight June 24 and 6:45 p.m. June 25. The car's owner told police the driver door of the car was ajar when she returned to it around 6 p.m., and that the only item that was missing was the receipt, which she'd kept in the glove compartment, police said. 

Checkbook, Change Stolen

Someone stole a checkbook and a few dollars in change from a car in the 1300 block of Elgin Avenue between 10 p.m. June 24 and 10 a.m. June 25. 

$750 in Tools Stolen

Someone stole about $750 in maintenance tools—including a sander, a saw, a pistol router, a circular saw, a hole saw set, tin snips, two drills and a vacuum—from the furnace room of a building in the 7500 block of Adams Street between 8 a.m. June 24 and 6 p.m. June 25. 

Break-in

A woman reported a break in after someone went through her car and left two doors ajar between 11:30 p.m. June 22 and 7:30 p.m. June 25, police said. Nothing was reported stolen.

MONDAY, JUNE 24

Walmart Employee Arrested in Gift Card Scam

Tiffany Brooks, 31, of Chicago was arrested around 4:40 p.m. after she gave two customers gift cards with no value in a cell phone promotion and kept the $50 gift cards for herself, police said.

Brooks was given a citation for retail theft. Her court date is pending.
