117 Cases Of Coronavirus Reported In Frankfort Area: County

There has been an increase of nine cases in the Frankfort area over the past week, according to county health department data.

FRANKFORT, IL — The number of Frankfort's coronavirus cases increased by nine cases over the past week, according to data from the Will County Health Department. Frankfort (ZIP code 60423) has 117 cases as of May 20, compared to 108 cases on May 13, which represents an 8.3 percent increase in the past week.

IDPH is also reporting a total of 927 tests have been performed for ZIP code 60423.

In nearby towns in the Lincoln-Way area, both Mokena (ZIP code 60448) and New Lenox (ZIP code 60451) have fewer cases, with 102 and 91 cases, respectively, as of May 20. Manhattan (ZIP code 60442) has 33 cases, according to data from the county health department.

At Silver Cross Hospital in New Lenox, the hospital has reported decreases in its amount of coronavirus in-patients and persons under investigation. On May 14, the hospital reported it had 23 inpatients who have tested positive for the coronavirus and nine persons under investigation. The amount of coronavirus patients at the hospital are counted at the place of their residence, according to the state.

Last week, Patch reported that Mayor Jim Holland and the village of Frankfort are lobbying Gov. J.B. Pritzker's office to adjust the Restore Illinois plan and place Frankfort in a different region than Chicago's region.

While regional adjustments have not been made, Pritzker announced Wednesday that restaurants and bars can reopen in Phase 3 if they can secure outdoor seating that maintains proper social distancing.

As of Wednesday, Illinois' coronavirus case count was 100,418 and the coronavirus has claimed the lives of 4,525 Illinois residents. Health authorities do not provide the number of deaths by municipality. In Will County, there are 4,718 cases of the coronavirus and 248 related deaths.
