Alsip Nursery to End Rescue Operations
Alsip to the Rescue became an "unsustainable organization" over the years, CEO says.

FRANKFORT, IL - Alsip to the Rescue will end rescue operations in the near future. CEO Richard Christakes and the Alsip to the Rescue board of directors announced on Facebook last week that the decision was made because "costs just far outweighed adoption fees and donations to the point where it became an unsustainable organization." Alsip to the Rescue has operated out of locations in Frankfort and St. John, Indiana for more than three years.
"We are all very proud of the work the staff and volunteers put in to help find homes for nearly 4,000 dogs and cats over this time period," the statement on Facebook read. "There were many memories made. A lot of blood, sweat, tears, long nights, long transport rides, frequent home visits, sadness and joy went into ATTR."
While full rescue operations will cease once all the remaining dogs and cats at the shelter find forever homes, the statement indicated some rescue dogs could remain on site at Alsip Home & Nursery stores. The decision also does not effect any other pet related services at the stores.
