'Devastated By This Tragic Loss': District 157-C Schools Offer Mental Health Resources After Student Death

The District shared that its schools are open on Wednesday to process the tragedy as a school community.

FRANKFORT, IL — District 157-C schools will remain open on Wednesday, a day after a Grand Prairie Elementary student was killed in a bus accident, the District shared in a statement.

"It is with profound sadness that we share that our school community has experienced an unimaginable loss," the District said. "Tragically, the bus accident that occurred yesterday has resulted in the passing of one of our Grand Prairie Elementary students."

Frankfort Police confirmed that a 6-year-old Frankfort girl died after she was struck by a school bus on Tuesday afternoon.

The Cook County Medical Examiner's office identified the girl as Jenna Menias, saying she died at a hospital in Olympia Fields.

"Everyone in the Frankfort School District 157-C community is devastated by this tragic loss and offer our sincerest condolences to our student's family and friends. We mourn alongside them and hold them in our thoughts during this time of profound grief," the District said.

The District shared that its schools are open on Wednesday to process the tragedy as a school community.

"We have made additional resources available throughout the district, including social workers, psychologists, and other trained support staff," the District shared. "Additional mental health professionals will also be available as needed to provide individual support and to assist students and staff who may be struggling with grief, anxiety, or other emotions related to this tragedy."
