Gallery Reception to Kick Off Patricia Moore's "Sounds" Show

"They call me an artist's artist," says Park Forest resident Patricia Moore. "I eat, sleep and drink art. It's my life."

Moore's show entitled "Sounds" runs from March 2 to April 6 at the Monkey Mind Art Studio and Gallery. Her abstract expressionism pieces flow from her brush as she listens to jazz and baroque music.

"There's lots of color and movement," Moore explains. "I might pull out a specific instrument that I'm listening to (and paint what that sounds like). I've actually given a recording of the piece of music I listened to while painting to the customer who buys the work."

Some of the pieces in the Monkey Mind show are part of a series called "V & S Jazz," in honor of local (married) jazz musicians Valerie Nicholson and Steve Jacobsen. Four larger canvasses from that collection grace the walls of the newly renovated and rededicated Tinley Park Convention Center.

When she's not painting in her Park Forest studio, Moore is teaching and has been since junior high, when her art teacher sent her over to the local grade school to teach basic drawing.

"It's my passion. I couldn't give it up," she said.
