FRANKFORT, IL — At its May 18 meeting, the Frankfort village board passed a resolution supporting the Will County Governmental League's letter to Governor J.B. Pritzker on the Restore Illinois plan and its request to make some modifications to the plan.

"I think it's important for our residents to know that Frankfort is following the governor's executive orders, and we will continue to do so," Mayor James Holland said at the meeting.

Holland said that local healthcare services haven't been as taxed as healthcare services in Chicago.

"It seems reasonable to believe that our less congested form of living in the suburbs makes the suburbs less vulnerable to the spread of a virus," Holland said. "It is just easier for people in the suburbs to maintain social distancing than for people in the city to maintain social distancing."

The letter from the Will County Governmental League requests several changes, including: evaluating Will County communities as a county or as part of one of the other regions of the state with similar population and density and shortening the 28-day evaluation period between phases to 14 days.

The letter also discusses the ability of small businesses in Will County communities to implement social distancing precautions and move to phase 3 or 4 of the plan sooner.

"It's up for the state's health experts to either agree or disagree with us," Holland said. "We are only asking, and we will abide by their decision."

The board unanimously approved the resolution.
