Frankfort Police Warn Of Scam Calls Asking For Donations

FRANKFORT, IL — The Frankfort Police Department is cautioning residents that it has received multiple calls about individuals claiming to be affiliated with the department while asking for donations on behalf of a police union.

"Just to be clear: while you’re always free to support causes you care about, the Frankfort Police Department does not solicit donations," the department said on its Facebook. "If someone contacts you claiming to be from our department and asking for money, that claim isn’t legitimate."

Scammers will often use this "government impersonation scam," sometimes even using spoofing to fake the caller ID.

"If you’re ever unsure whether a call is real, feel free to reach out to us directly—we’re always here to help and verify," the department said.
