Frankfort Prohibits Recreational Cannabis Businesses

Villages are allowed to opt out of allowing recreational cannabis stores in their zoning, which Frankfort has now done.

FRANKFORT, IL — Recreational cannabis businesses are now prohibited in Frankfort. At its Aug. 19 meeting, the Frankfort village board approved an ordinance prohibiting the sale of recreational cannabis within village limits.

The state of Illinois recently legalized the sale of recreational marijuana, effective next year. However, villages are allowed to opt out of allowing recreational cannabis stores through their zoning laws, which Frankfort has now done.

Trustee Keith Ogle said medical marijuana is not included in this ordinance.
