Frankfort Seeks Loan To Replace Lead Service Lines

The program will help homeowners and businesses who have a lead service line that supplies water from the water main to their residence.

FRANKFORT, IL — The village of Frankfort is applying for a loan through the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency’s Public Water Supply Loan program to assist residents in replacing lead service lines. The village said this loan program funds up to $1,000,000 for this fiscal year with 50 percent being forgivable.

As part of the loan application, the village will host an informational meeting at 5 p.m. March 20 at village hall, 432 W. Nebraska St.

The program will help homeowners and businesses who have a lead service line that supplies
water from the village’s water main to their residence or business.

“We estimate that there are less than 100 properties in Frankfort that still have lead service lines,” Utility Director Mike Stone said in a release. “These are usually in structures built before 1960 that have not been fully updated.”

None of the village of Frankfort’s water mains contain lead.

The village said this is a voluntary replacement program. The village will coordinate with affected
residents and businesses once a lead service line has been identified.

“If approved, this grant will help our residents by creating an opportunity to eliminate these old service lines," Mayor James Holland said in a release.
