Kup A Joe: Owner Continues to Build Breakfast Business (Video)

owner James Garofalo is no stranger to the breakfast café business. After opening up Egg and I restaurants in both Chicago Heights and Tinley Park, Garofalo decided to on April 16. His new establishment opened in the old location for , which .

“This is an ideal location in Frankfort, and it’s the only existing breakfast location in the main part of town,” Garofalo said.

How Has Business Been Since the Opening? "We had to build up our traffic, since (there was no recent activity at the location),” Garofalo said. “It’s been a little difficult trying to get people to know we’re here. … So we’re doing our best.”

Who Works There?

  • Owner: Garofalo has been in the restaurant business for over thirty years. “It’s just something that I’ve always been interested in—breakfast and lunch,” said Garofalo of why he decided to get into the business.
  • Employees: Garofalo, his wife, Stacy, and other family members are working at the restaurant on a daily basis. When hiring employees, Garofalo looks for people that have “an outgoing personality [and are] upbeat.”

What Makes Kup A Joe Cafe Special? “We have an array of waffles and eggs,” said Garofalo, who’s favorite item on the menu is the Patriotic Waffle, which includes strawberries, bananas and whip cream to make it red, white and blue. “And we have a lot of burgers, sandwiches and just good food.”

Future Plans? “At this time, not really, just to work with this existing restaurant and do the best we can,” Garofalo said.
