Grand Prairie Students Meet Chicago Bears Mascot
Staley Da Bear gives students tips on living a healthy lifestyle

Grand Prairie Elementary School pre-kindergarten through second grade students recently got some tips on healthy living from Staley Da Bear, the Chicago Bears official mascot. The assembly was sponsored by the 157-C Family School Partnership organization.
The informative, hands-on, educational school health show delighted the students as they learned more about living a healthy lifestyle. Their First and Goal program of “How to score a touchdown for a healthy life” was comprised of four downs: Eat Healthy, Drink Plenty of Water, Get Plenty of Rest and Keep Physically Active. The students were asked to raise their hands to answer questions while Staley acted out ways that were not so healthy. For example, when they went over the importance of getting plenty of rest, Staley fell asleep on the gymnasium floor and he admitted he had been up playing video games instead of sleeping the night before.
The students were also challenged to take Staley’s Fitness Challenge, a six week program where the children will chart their progress on their way to living a healthier life by following the four downs. Every student who finishes Staley’s Fitness Challenge will receive a letter of honor from Staley and a special Chicago Bears health award commemorating the accomplishments of each challenge. Everyone who finishes the Challenge will also be entered into the grand prize drawing for two tickets to a Chicago Bears home football game, special “on field” recognition, butt-out bully, a 10 minute on-field tour before the game begins and a Staley plush doll. In addition, the school with the most students completing Staley’s fitness challenge can win a huge trophy presented at the school by Staley and some special guests.
