L-W 210 Board Selects New Auditors

Companies will dig in to the district's current and future finances, as well as review how building bond proceeds have been used since 2006.

Lincoln-Way District 210 board members on Thursday moved forward with pursuing external audits, with the approval of accounting firms to complete the tasks.

Board members unanimously approved Wermer, Rogers, Doran and Ruzon and Crowe Horwath.

WRDR will conduct an audit of the district’s finances for fiscal years 2016–2018, at a cost not to exceed $80,580. Crowe Horwath will perform a forensic audit of the district’s use of building bond proceeds since 2006, at a cost not to exceed $14,500.

Thousands of Lincoln-Way District parents petitioned for a closer examination of the board’s finances, following the decision to close Lincoln-Way North—a decision many parents have said was hastily made and not in the best interest of the communities. Community members have called for board members to resign, as many parents—including those of Lincoln-Way Area Taxpayers Unite—dig into the district’s numbers and board’s conduct.

Superintendent Scott Tingley said the district will use WRDR for the next several years. Board members chose it over previous auditors Mulcahy, Pauritsch, Salvador & Co., who were scrutinized by member Christopher McFadden.

The audit of building bond proceeds will target “some concerns in those areas,” said Superintendent Dr. Scott Tinlgey said, as reported by the Herald-News.

“Those are the areas we’re going to begin with, to begin the research and to get exact figures.”

The board will then review the results and consider if any future action is needed.
