Latest Frankfort Coronavirus Updates

Here are the latest local updates on how the coronavirus outbreak is impacting Frankfort.

FRANKFORT, IL — The new coronavirus outbreak in Illinois and across the country is having vast impacts in Frankfort, including the closure of several local businesses, the library, park district and schools.

As of Wednesday, the number of cases in Illinois is 1,535 and 19 people have died from the coronavirus. According to the Will County Department of Health, there are 50 confirmed cases in the county, and two county residents have died. Of those cases, 30 are female, 19 are male and one is unknown.

Additionally,two correctional officers and an inmate at Stateville Correctional Center in Crest Hill have tested positive for the virus, according to the IDPH. The two officers are recovering at home, according to the IDPH release, while the inmate is isolated and is recovering in the hospital. Those who have been reported as possibly being exposed to those infected with the virus are being isolated and the facility is on a 14-day lockdown.

Governor JB Pritzker has also issued a stay-at-home order in effect until at least April 7. With this order, only essential businesses like grocery stores, pharmacies, gas stations and restaurants offering carry-out services can remain open.

SCHOOLS

Schools across Illinois, and in Frankfort, will be closed until at least April 8, per Pritzker's stay-at-home order. MORE.

BUSINESSES

Frankfort has canceled its spring farmers market through May 31.

Several Frankfort restaurants are still offering carry-out, curbside pick-up or delivery. MORE.

Many local grocery stores have also adjusted their hours, and some have added hours for seniors or vulnerable groups. MORE.

HOSPITALS

Silver Cross Hospital in New Lenox had its first patient test positive for the coronavirus on March 18. The hospital has instituted strict visitor guidelines, and is screening and taking the temperatures of all visitors who may be allowed. MORE.

CANCELLATIONS/CLOSURES

The Diocese of Joliet has suspended all normal religious services, which includes celebrations for Easter Week. The services are canceled until further notice. The Islamic Foundation of the Southwest Suburbs has also suspended its Friday services. MORE.

Frankfort Park District has closed all of its facilities and canceled all programs through April 7. In addition, park district playgrounds and the Bark Park are closed. MORE.
