Residential Development Plans On Former BorgWarner Site Approved By Frankfort Board

The development is on a vacant 25.9-acre parcel at 300 S. Maple St., which is the site of the former BorgWarner facility.

FRANKFORT, IL — Plans for a new residential development, The Reserve of Copper Creek, moved forward after approvals at Frankfort's Village Board meeting on Monday.

The development is on a vacant 25.9-acre parcel at 300 S. Maple St., which is the site of the former BorgWarner facility. The production plant was a long-time staple in Frankfort until its closure at the end of 2021.

Trustee Jessica Petrow said the development is a 55-unit mixed residential development, which consists of 35 single-family homes and 20 town homes.

The Board approved rezoning the property from R-4 to R-3, a special use permit for the planned unit development, a preliminary development plan and a preliminary plat of subdivision.

According to Board documents, the developer reduced density of the project after feedback from the Village. The project originally had 52 duplexes, and now has 20; and the single-family homes increased from 23 to 35 homes.

Meeting minutes from the plan commission state that the developer expects it will take 3.5 to 4 years to build all the lots in the project.
