FRANKFORT, IL — The state has allocated $122.5 million for costs of acquiring and refurbishing Lincoln-Way North High School into a state forensic lab. The item was included in House Bill 0064, which was approved on June 12. According to the Illinois General Assembly website, the bill is effective immediately.
According to the bill, $122.5 million will be appropriated from the Build Illinois bond fund to the Department of State Police for the project.
Lincoln-Way North was built after a 2006 referendum from the district, but it closed at the start of the 2016-17 school year. Various entities have been interested in purchasing the school, but nothing has ever been finalized.

Lincoln-Way District 210 spokesperson Jen Hannon told Patch several state agencies have toured Lincoln-Way North.
"There have been no discussions of terms on acquiring the building. Any deliberation of an offer to purchase the building would take place in open session during a board of education meeting," she said.
