Gale Scholars add 11 students as tuition‑free program hits 30 years (galesburg.com) — Galesburg’s long-running Gale Scholars Program just welcomed 11 new students into a tuition-free pathway to Carl Sandburg College and Knox College. Marking its 30th cohort, the program supports first-generation and income-eligible District 205 students with academic guidance, strong community backing, and life-changing opportunities close to home.

3. Rotary Park pickleball courts nearly done, open for play by end of next week (wgil.com) — New pickleball courts at Rotary Park in Galesburg are nearly ready, with play expected to start by the end of next week once surfacing cures and fencing, nets, and benches are installed. The $547,618 city-approved project adds eight purpose-built courts and a bullpen waiting area, while the six existing Bateman Park courts will stay open from dawn to dusk.

4. James R. 'Jim' Carlson (977wmoi.com) — Galesburg is mourning the passing of 88-year-old James “Jim” Carlson, a longtime educator and coach who made his home here and was born in Galesburg. Friends and neighbors can pay their respects at visitation Friday evening, June 5, and funeral services Saturday morning at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel, followed by a local celebration of life.

Alfred Ray Lucy Obituary – Galesburg, IL (1945–2026) (wgil.com) — Galesburg residents are invited to honor longtime community member and Army veteran Alfred Ray Lucy, who passed away May 29 at age 80. A brief viewing will be held Thursday, June 4 at Watson Thomas Funeral Home, followed by graveside services with military rites at Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens in Galesburg. His son Brad and extended family remain to cherish his memory.
