GENEVA, IL — In preparation for residents taking down their holiday decorations, city officials announced Monday that two Christmas tree collections are scheduled for January in Geneva.

Residents will be able to dispose of their real Christmas trees during regular garbage collection days during the weeks of Jan. 3 and Jan. 10. People should put trees out with their garbage no later than 7 a.m. on their scheduled garbage day, officials said.

Wreaths and roping can also be thrown out with the regular trash. During this timeframe, no refuse sticker will be required.

All decorations — ornaments, hooks, nails, tinsel, garland, tree stands and other hard materials— should be removed prior to disposal. Officials said Lakeshore Recycling Systems, the city's waste hauler, won't accept bagged trees.

More information about the city's refuse services can be found by calling the Public Works Department at 630-232-1501.
