ADA Improvements Planned Along Route 31 In Geneva

IDOT will improve sidewalks at multiple intersections along Route 31 and install new pedestrian signals at State and Third streets.

Most of the planned ADA-compliant improvements will not require long-term lane closures as crews will focus on one side of the street at a time when possible.

GENEVA, IL — Americans with Disabilities Act-compliant improvements are coming to Route 31 in Geneva starting Thursday.

The Illinois Department of Transportation is improving sidewalks at multiple intersections along Route 31 and installing new pedestrian signals at State and Third streets.

  • North Street
  • Stevens Street
  • Ford Street
  • Peyton Street (including removal of sidewalk crossing)
  • Hamilton Street (including removal of sidewalk crossing)
  • State Street (Route 38)
  • James Street
  • Campbell Street (including removal of southern sidewalk crossing)
  • Franklin Street (including removal of sidewalk crossing)

IDOT is managing the project and decided which sidewalk crossings to remove, Geneva officials noted, saying they do not have jurisdiction over the matter since Route 31 is a state highway.
