GENEVA, IL — Repairs are planned on a Geneva train bridge, requiring the Route 31 underpass to close for the day Saturday, officials said.

Route 31 will be shut down between South and Third streets while Union Pacific completes the work. The emergency repair is not related to the ongoing Third Main Line project, according to city officials.

City officials said Union Pacific did not provide them with an official detour route. Drivers should use Third Street or Route 25 as alternate routes, officials said.

Saturday will mark the second time in less than a month that the Route 31 underpass will close for an emergency repair. The last repair happened Sept. 10, a little more than a week after the underpass reopened after it had been closed for a couple of months while a Union Pacific contractor built abutments, wing walls and other support structures south of the existing train bridge, Patch reported.
