Batavia House Fire Under Investigation

A fire at a home in Batavia caused an estimated $25,000 in damage Wednesday.

Firefighters responded to the home at 38W149 Hickory Court at 8:04 a.m. Wednesday and found light, white smoke showing from the back of the home. The homeowners had gotten out safely and told fire crews the blaze was in the basement. They also said access to the basement would be difficult due to the large volume of items stored in the home, according to a Batavia Fire Department press release.

Firefighters were able to put the fire out through an “exterior attack through the basement windows,” fire officials said.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
