Batavia Man Faces Several Charges In State Street Crash
Aggravated DUI, possession of marijuana, and possession of fireworks are among the charges filed in connection with the Dec. 22 collision.

GENEVA, IL – Aggravated drunken driving, drug and traffic charges have been filed against a 28-year-old Batavia man accused of causing a crash that injured himself and another driver just days before Christmas, police said. David J. Walgenbach, of the 400 block of Maves Drive in Batavia, was driving a 2014 silver Mazda CX-5 north on Crissey Avenue in Geneva when he allegedly failed to stop for a stop sign at the State Street intersection. Walgenbach’s car collided with a 2005 silver Honda Accord at about 1:37 a.m. on Dec. 22, according to a news release from the Geneva Police Department.
The Honda Accord was pushed into the front yard of a home on the northside of State Street. The vehicle, which was driven by a 22-year-old Geneva man, came to rest after striking some bushes and cement stairs outside the home.
The home was not damage but both Walgenbach and the Geneva man were taken to Delnor Hospital with serious injuries. The Geneva man was released from the hospital on Christmas Eve and Walgenbach was discharged from medical care on Christmas Day.

Walgenbach has been charged with aggravated driving under the influence causing great bodily harm, expired registration, disobeying a stop sign, failure to wear a seatbelt, possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of fireworks.
The accident remains under investigation by the Geneva Police Department pending a toxicology analysis.
