Batavia Pedestrian, 55, Dies After Crash In Geneva: Police

The woman was walking south near the center turn lane on State Street when she was hit by a sedan driven by a 30-year-old Geneva woman.

GENEVA, IL — A 55-year-old Batavia woman died after she was hit by a car around 6:48 p.m. Wednesday on East State Street in Geneva, according to police.

The woman was walking south near the center turn lane on State Street east of Sandholm Street when she was struck by a black 2018 Hyundai Kona. The car was driven by a 30-year-old Geneva woman who was driving west on State Street, police said.

The Batavia resident, whose name police did not release pending family notification, was transported to Northwestern Delnor Hospital, where she later died, officials said.

The Hyundai driver was not injured in the crash and has been "fully cooperating" with Geneva police's ongoing investigation. As of Thursday, police said she was issued a traffic citation for failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident.

Police said further charges will be determined based on the results of the investigation.

Geneva police, the Geneva Fire Department and the Geneva Emergency Management Agency responded to the crash. State Street from East Side Drive to Sandholm Street was closed for about four hours while police and the Kane County Accident Reconstruction Team investigated the incident.
