Drunken Driver Hits Pedestrian In Geneva: Authorities

Two women were crossing the street in Geneva when an SUV hit one of them.

GENEVA, IL – A 33-year-old West Chicago man faces felony drunken driving charges after he allegedly hit a pedestrian crossing the street in Geneva last month, the Kane County Chronicle reports. The victim and her friend were crossing at Fourth and West State streets at about 8:30 p.m. when an SUV came barreling toward them. Police said the duo tried to get the driver's attention but then ended up running to try and avoid being hit.

One made it but the other was struck by the 2013 Ford Escape, according to the Kane County Chronicle. She lost three teeth and her braces were damaged.

The SUV driver, Matilde Grande-Diaz, 33, of the 200 block of High Street in West Chicago, has been charged with driving under the influence, driving without insurance and failure to yield the right of way to a pedestrian in a crosswalk, the newspaper reports.
