Honk Jr. musical presented by Rising Star Theatreworks

Rising Star Theatreworks will present musical tale of the Ugly Duckling story called Honk Jr. at the Historic Arcada Theatre in St. Charles on January 28–30, 2011.

Based on Hans Christian Andersen's classic story, Honk! Jr. tells the tale of a baby duck named Ugly whose odd, gawky looks are mocked by his family and neighbors. Separated from the farm and pursued by a hungry cat, Ugly must find his way home. Along his rollicking and harrowing journey, he discovers his true beauty and glorious destiny, and also finds love and acceptance. Honk! Jr. will treat your family to equal amounts of laughter and tears. Its charm, humor and message of acceptance resonates with audiences of all ages. Adapted for young performers, this junior version has been abridged to under 90 minutes with music transposed into keys appropriate for young voices. Musical numbers include "A Poultry Tale," "The Joy of Motherhood," "Different," and "Warts and All."

Honk Jr. is directed by RST artistic director and co-founder Jeanne O'Donnell. Vocal director is Dawn Harkins. Choreographer is Paul Venckus and Assistant Director is Steven Sledzinski. The musical features cast members in grades 3 through 9 from Batavia, Geneva, St. Charles, Aurora, Elgin, South Elgin, and Wayne.
