Few Details Emerge on Geneva Man Found Dead in House

Authorities are investigating the death of a 53-year-old Geneva man who was found dead in his home Thursday evening.
Few details have emerged surrounding the death of Eduardo Gutierrez of 39 Crissey Avenue in Geneva. Police were called to his home at about 6:19 p.m. on Thursday for a well-being check that was placed by someone who was not inside the home. The identity of the person who placed the call is not being released.
When they arrived, officers found Gutierrez dead inside the home, according to a Geneva Police Department press release.

The man’s wife, who was home at the time, was provided medical attention as is ”standard protocol,” police said. She was later transported to a local hospital for an additional evaluation.
Police conducted a search of the home early Friday. An autopsy was done Friday and Kane County Coroner Rob Russell said in a press released that the ”preliminary cause of death is pending further investigation.” Toxicology samples were collected and sent to a forensic lab, he said.

“Due to the unknown cause of death, this case is being classified as a death investigation,” police said Friday.
Police said they are confident “there is no danger to the public in relation to the investigation.” As of Friday, no one was in custody in connection with the death.
