Gen-Hoe's Great Food Makes It a Geneva Favorite

Everything about Gen Hoe in Geneva takes you back to the era of vintage Chinese-American Chop Suey palaces.

Gen-Hoe has been serving Chinese-American fare to Geneva since 1969. Everything from the restaurant's dining room style to the tropical-themed cocktails is part of the quality that has made this family-style Chinese restaurant a Geneva favorite. One thing is for sure: After a dining experience at Gen-Hoe, you'll never leave feeling hungry.

Decor

The styling of Gen-Hoe's dining room carries a classic Asian theme throughout the space. Tufted draperies cover the round windows and gold tinged Asian art fills the walls. The white table cloths give an extra emphasis on simple elegance, and there's enough room for larger parties to enjoy ample elbow room.

Appetizers

All the usual suspects appear on the appetizer menu, but the Egg Rolls ($4) are arguably some of the best in the area, and are large enough to share.

For a little taste of the best items on the menu, try the Combination Appetizer Tray for two ($17), which includes egg rolls, BBQ ribs, fried shrimp, gee gee beef, and chicken strips.

Entrees

Gen-Hoe's menu is a book of delicious meat, seafood, and vegetable options which come in small or large sizes. The Steak Kow ($13.15) is made with beef tenderloin medallions, pea pods, mushrooms, water chestnuts, and Chinese greens. It is a delicious dish infused with overtones of garlic.

Sweet and Sour Shrimp ($18.15) is a crowd favorite. It is made with delicately fried shrimp and their own house sweet and sour sauce, and comes served with rice.

Their Chop Suey and Chow Mein dishes ($9.20-14.95) are large enough to share, and come freshly prepared with meat, seafood, or vegetables.

Desserts

Moochi Ice Cream is a sweet rice crepe wrapped around a ball of ice cream and is a cool treat after a spicy meal, available flavors tend to vary, so please ask your server for the day's offerings.

For something a little more exotic, try the Lychee Fruit, which has the consistency of a grape with a much sweeter tropical taste.

Service

The waitstaff is generally very accommodating and prompt. They will assist with menu suggestions and make any necessary guest substitutions.
