Geneva Citizen Police Academy Applications Now Open

​At the academy, residents will get an overview and insight into the department as well as a behind-the-scenes look at police operations.

GENEVA, IL — Geneva residents interested in learning about the functions of the Geneva Police Department have the opportunity to register for the 2022 Citizen Police Academy.

Registration has opened for the program, where classes run weekly from 6-9 p.m. Tuesday nights. The first class is scheduled for Oct. 4, and the final one will take place Dec. 20.

Through the academy, students will get an overview and insight into the department as well as a behind-the-scenes look at police operations, officials said. At previous academies, participants learned about a variety of topics: the police hiring process, use of force, crime scene investigations, tech crime, traffic enforcement, crime prevention, drug education and active shooters.

In order to apply, members must be 21 years or older and be a resident or business owner in Geneva. Applications are available on the city's website or at the police department, 20 Police Plaza.

Filled-out applications can be dropped off or mailed to the Geneva police Department by Sept. 23.
