Geneva Council to Discuss a 'Places for Eating' Tax
The Geneva City Council is in the process of reviewing various taxes and fees to help pay for city services.

How do you feel about paying for a 2 percent “places for eating” tax? How about paying an extra 1 percent in sales tax while shopping in a newly created downtown business district in Geneva?
These are both options the Geneva City Council is expected to discuss as administrators work to submit a tentative 2016-17 fiscal year budget in the coming weeks.
The council has come up with a list of 33 ways to increase revenue, which includes the implementation of a 1 percent sales tax in a new downtown business district that could generate $750,000 annually. Another option is a proposed 2 percent “places for eating” tax that would be charged on food and beverage bought at restaurants and could bring in $500,000 annually, the Daily Herald reports.
