Geneva Firefighters Battle Blaze at Industrial Hard Chrome

No one was injured during the machine fire Thursday night.

GENEVA, IL — No one was injured after a blaze broke out at Industrial Hard Chrome, 501 Fluid Power Drive in Geneva, Thursday night, authorities said. The Geneva Fire Department responded to the machine fire started at 10:25 p.m.

Fire crews first at the scene saw smoke coming from several open overhead doors on the building, according to a news release from the Geneva Fire Department. Firefighters also saw visible flames inside the building coming from a large machine, which is used for final buffing and polishing of chrome-plated metal products by the company.

The fire, which was extinguished around 11:30 p.m., was confined to the machine and its dust collection system. There was no structural damage to the building or any of the other machines.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation. No damage estimate is available at this time.

The Geneva Fire Department was assisted at the scene by the St. Charles, Batavia, West Chicago, and Elburn fire departments as well as the Geneva Police Department. The Fermi Lab and North Aurora fire departments provided coverage at Geneva’s stations during the incident.
