Geneva Man Charged With Weapons Violation, Battery Following Domestic Incident

The charges come following a dispute between the man and his sister over a wrestling match he had with the sister's teenage son.

A 41-year-old Geneva man faces charges following a domestic dispute that occurred over the weekend at a home in unincorporated Geneva Townships.

Police were called to the home in the 0N600 block of Keegan Drive in unincorporated Geneva Township at 6:45 p.m. on Jan. 17. While deputies were still responding to the scene, they were informed that a person inside the home had fired a gun, according to a Kane County Sheriff’s Office press release.

When they arrived, deputies were informed that everyone but the man who allegedly fired the gun had safely gotten out of the home, police said. Deputies were able to make contact with the man, who was later identified as Andrew Deliman, but he refused to come out of the home.

Deputies were eventually able to go into the home and take him into custody without any incident, police said.

An initial investigation revealed Deliman got into a fight with his sister regarding a wrestling match he had with her 15 year old son. At some point during the verbal argument he pushed her, police said.

As the dispute continued, everyone who was inside the residence went outside. While Deliman was alone inside the home he got a handgun from a safe in the residence and fired a shot inside the house. The initial investigation does not indicate that he aimed the gun at anyone, according to the news release.

He was taken to Delnor Hospital for an evaluation and was later brought to the Kane County Adult Justice Center.

Deliman is charged with reckless discharge of a firearm, two counts of domestic battery of an insulting or provoking nature, one county of domestic battery and one county of disorderly conduct.
