Geneva Officials To Discuss Marijuana Regulations

Here's when the discussion is scheduled to take place.

GENEVA, IL — The regulation of adult-use cannabis businesses within Geneva city limits will be discussed by city officials Monday, less than a month until marijuana use among those over 21 years old becomes legal in Illinois. According to Kane County Chronicle, the Geneva City Council is expected to discuss the local regulation of those establishments during the upcoming meeting, as alderman can decide whether to ban recreational marijuana sales within city limits.

City officials can also decide how those businesses are carried out, in addition to other zoning and operational details. The regulation and taxation of marijuana goes into effect in Illinois on Jan. 1, meaning officials in Geneva can't ban cannabis possession or consumption, but can ban its sale within the city, the news report added. Last month, the Geneva Planning and Zoning Commission voted to recommend against allowing the zoning of cannabis retailers in Geneva, Kane County Chronicle said.
