Geneva Residents Asked To Limit Electric Use Wednesday Afternoon

GENEVA, IL — Geneva residents are being asked to limit their electric power consumption from 2-7 p.m. Wednesday as a way to provide some relief to the city's operations.

In the afternoons on the warmest days of summer, officials offer locals a voluntary electric load reduction program — there are no penalties if anyone chooses not to participate, and no numbers are being reported or tracked, officials said. City officials issue an average of 20 peak power day alerts per summer.

The easiest ways to reduce electric use is by adjusting thermostats a few degrees, running major appliances later in the evening and turning lights off in empty rooms.

By participating, residents help make Geneva a greener community and keep their own electric costs down. Officials noted the city's electric system has "plenty of capacity and reserve to serve all its customers."
