Geneva Swedish Days Parade Nixed From 2026 Festival
Swedish Days isn't going away, but the parade traditionally held on the final day of the festival will.
GENEVA, IL — The parade traditionally held on the final day of the Swedish Days festival will not return this year, the Geneva Chamber of Commerce announced Monday.
Swedish Days is returning June 24-28 to downtown Geneva for its 76th anniversary, celebrating the heritage of the Swedish immigrants who settled in the area. A carnival, live music, a beer tent, many food vendors and a 5K race are all planned.
The Chamber, the organizer of the event, emphasized the change is part of a broader effort to "strengthen the future" of the festival. Planning and community input were factored into the decision.

"This thoughtful decision reflects the Chamber's commitment to ensuring the long-term continued success of one of Geneva's most cherished community celebrations," officials wrote in a news release.
Instead of the parade, the Chamber, the organizer of the event, is planning family-friendly events as a way to highlight the downtown area while "creating a more intimate and engaging atmosphere for attendees of all ages."

"In honoring the strong tradition of the Swedish Days Parade, we also recognize the importance of evolving wisely," Chamber President Paula Schmidt said in a statement. "Taking a pause allows us to reimagine a Swedish Days' experience that is more reflective of the heart of our local community."
Details about Swedish Days activities are live on the Chamber's website, but a full daily events list has yet to be shared.
