Geneva Teen, 17, Killed After Train Hit Her Early Tuesday: Police

Police said they are not releasing the name of the girl who was hit by a Metra train on the Union Pacific-West line around 6 a.m. Tuesday.

GENEVA, IL — A 17-year-old Geneva girl died Tuesday morning after she was hit by a Metra passenger train, police said.

The train was traveling eastbound on the Union Pacific-West line underneath Route 25 around 6 a.m. when it hit the teenager. Geneva police officers and fire department personnel were dispatched around 6:20 a.m. They located the girl and pronounced her dead at the scene, officials said.

As of Tuesday afternoon, police said they would not be releasing the girl's name. An autopsy is scheduled for Wednesday.

The Metra Police Department and Union Pacific Railroad employees assisted police with the investigation Tuesday morning, which forced rail traffic in Geneva, Elburn and LaFox to close for more than two hours.

The pedestrian-train crash remains under investigation by Geneva police, Metra and the Kane County Coroner's Office.
