Geneva Woman Charged With Stealing from Vet Clinic Where She Worked

Martha Straus was arrested this past week for stealing from St. Charles Veterinary Clinic.

ST. CHARLES, IL - A 52-year-old Geneva woman accused of stealing thousands of dollars from a vet clinic in St. Charles was arrested this past week.

Martha P. Straus, of the 200 block of South Harrison Street in Geneva, was taken into custody on Tuesday following a four-month investigation into a report of theft at the St. Charles Veterinary Clinic.

Straus is accused of stealing from the clinic between 2009 and 2015 while she was employed as the business manager, according to a St. Charles Police Department press release. The theft of the funds was made to appear as routine business transactions, police said. Straus is no longer employed by the clinic.

She is charged with theft-unauthorized control with intent to deprive greater than $100,000 but less than $500,000 and theft by deception with intent to deprive greater than $100,000 and less than $500,000.

Her bond was set at $25,000. She was released on a personal recognizance bond.

Her next court date is set for June 9.
